BrahMos Missiles Crippled Pakistan’s Chinese Air Defence Systems During Operation Sindoor: Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday highlighted the decisive success of India’s military action under Operation Sindoor, revealing that indigenously built BrahMos missiles had destroyed Pakistan’s Chinese-supplied air defence systems. Speaking at an event in Ahmedabad during his two-day visit to Gujarat, Shah said the strikes were a firm response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.
“Pakistan’s air defence systems, borrowed from China, were destroyed by our BrahMos missiles made in India. Our BrahMos gave a strong and clear reply to Pakistan,” Shah said while addressing the gathering.
The Home Minister paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and praised the subsequent military operation, underlining its three major achievements: dismantling terrorist infrastructure, exposing Pakistan’s complicity in terrorism, and showcasing India’s advancing military prowess.
“After the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged in Bihar to reduce the terrorists to ashes. Within days, under the Prime Minister’s unwavering leadership and the courage of our armed forces, nine terrorist bases were demolished,” Shah noted, referring to the pre-dawn May 7 strikes targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
According to Shah, the strikes eliminated over 100 terrorists and triggered a series of cross-border attacks involving fighter jets, missiles, armed drones, and intense artillery duels along the western border.
The Home Minister described Operation Sindoor as historic in both scale and intent. “Unlike the surgical strikes of 2016 and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes, which remained confined to PoK, Operation Sindoor saw our forces penetrate 100 kilometres deep into Pakistan,” he said.
He also cited the operation as evidence of Pakistan’s direct involvement in cross-border terrorism. “For years, Pakistan denied the presence of terrorists on its soil, calling India’s claims baseless. But when the missiles struck and terrorists were neutralised, the world witnessed the truth,” Shah asserted.
Earlier in the day, Shah participated in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tiranga Yatra in Ahmedabad’s Sanand area, celebrating the military operation’s success. Holding the national flag, Shah marched from Nal Sarovar Chowkdi to Maharana Pratap Chowk alongside Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi and other party leaders, concluding the rally by offering floral tributes at the statue of the legendary Rajput ruler.
In his address, Shah pointed to the presence of senior Pakistani military officials at the funerals of the slain terrorists as further proof of Pakistan’s deep ties with militant groups. He praised the Indian Air Force for damaging key Pakistani airbases, including Sialkot, Nur Jahan, Sukkur, Malir Cantt in Karachi, and Bholari, during the operation.
Echoing Prime Minister Modi’s tough stance, Shah reiterated that “the waters of the Sindhu river and the blood of terrorists cannot flow together.” He said Modi had warned Pakistan that it must dismantle terror infrastructure to retain its access to the Indus waters under the 1960 treaty, which India suspended following the Pahalgam massacre. Shah also reaffirmed the government’s position that no dialogue with Pakistan would occur unless it addresses cross-border terrorism and the status of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Shah revealed that Modi personally named the operation ‘Sindoor’ to honour the widows of the Pahalgam attack victims. “Those who dared to wipe the sindoor from our women have been wiped out,” he declared.
Concluding his address, Shah expressed pride in Gujarat’s connection to the operation and India’s bold counter-terrorism policy. “Operation Sindoor will be remembered as a golden chapter in India’s military history. Under Modi’s leadership, India is on track to emerge as a global leader by 2047,” he said.
