The Congress on Saturday confirmed that the government had requested it to nominate four Members of Parliament for upcoming all-party delegations, which will travel abroad to present India’s position on terrorism originating from Pakistan. Responding to the request, the party nominated Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain, and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring for the delegations.
This announcement followed the government’s disclosure of plans to dispatch seven all-party delegations to key partner nations, including UN Security Council members, later this month. Notably, the list of delegation leaders includes Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, nominated directly by the Centre.
The initiative comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, aimed at reaffirming India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism on the global stage.
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh shared that “Yesterday morning, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju spoke with the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The INC was asked to submit names of four MPs for these international delegations to explain India’s stance on terrorism from Pakistan.”
He added that “By noon yesterday, May 16, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha (Rahul Gandhi) formally conveyed the names on behalf of the Congress — former Union Cabinet Minister Anand Sharma, Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain, and Lok Sabha MP Raja Brar.”
Earlier on Saturday, the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry issued a statement noting that the delegations would represent India’s united national consensus and unwavering resolve against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
“They would deliver to the world India’s strong message of zero tolerance towards terrorism,” the statement said.
The ministry also highlighted that the leaders chosen to head the delegations are from across the political spectrum and are known for their articulate and representative voices. The delegations will be led by BJP MPs Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha, DMK MP Kanimozhi, NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde.
Of the seven, four represent the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and three belong to the opposition INDIA bloc. Each delegation will also include seasoned diplomats.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju posted on X, “In moments that matter most, Bharat stands united. Seven all-party delegations will soon visit key partner nations, carrying our shared message of zero tolerance to terrorism.”
Sharing the ministry’s statement, he remarked, “A powerful reflection of national unity above politics, beyond differences.”
