Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on Monday night, following the ceasefire announcement in the India-Pakistan conflict, sent a clear and decisive message regarding Operation Sindoor and India’s future course of action. His speech has also set the stage for the BJP’s nationwide outreach on the issue.

In this context, the BJP will be organizing Tiranga Yatras, spanning 11 days, starting Tuesday across the country. Earlier that day, the party held its first press conference on India’s strikes against Pakistan, emphasizing that the operation achieved its intended objectives.

A key meeting of senior BJP leaders took place Sunday night at party chief J.P. Nadda’s residence, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah in attendance. It was decided that the party’s approach would focus on highlighting the gains made by the armed forces while avoiding any tone of triumphalism, instead promoting a “strong, secure” nationalism. With the ceasefire in place, PM Modi took the lead in spearheading this outreach effort, according to party sources.

Multiple rounds of high-level discussions were held to finalize the outreach plan, incorporating feedback from state units, a party source said. Additionally, the Ministry of External Affairs held detailed media briefings on Sunday.

One key issue raised within the BJP was how to respond to comments made by US President Donald Trump regarding the ceasefire, and remarks by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggesting that India and Pakistan had agreed to hold talks at a neutral venue. This led to criticism from the Opposition, which questioned the role of the US. PM Modi’s message, emphasizing that any talks with Pakistan would focus solely on terrorism and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, was seen as a direct rebuttal to these concerns.

Some BJP leaders expressed concerns about how to take “political ownership” of the operation after the ceasefire was announced, noting that opposition leaders had been quicker to articulate India’s stance. However, sources revealed that the continuing drone attacks on Saturday evening delayed official briefings. The decision was made to wait for a period of calm, which finally arrived on Sunday.

Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad denied any delay in communication, stating that the Armed Forces and the Ministry of External Affairs had been briefing the media regularly. “The BJP’s position aligns with the government’s stand,” he added.

At the Sunday meeting, it was also suggested that official briefings by the Army and External Affairs Ministry could be more “elaborate.” On Monday, top military officials, including Air Marshal A.K. Bharti, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, and Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, held a media briefing to address questions.

During the BJP’s first media briefing since Operation Sindoor began, spokesperson Sambit Patra praised PM Modi for fulfilling his promise to deliver “punishment beyond their imagination” to those behind the Pahalgam attack. He emphasized that Pakistan “lost nine terror sites, 11 air bases, over 100 terrorists, 50 soldiers, and its prestige,” while Operation Sindoor successfully met 100 percent of its objectives.

Patra also highlighted the “non-military” aspect of the operation, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, which would significantly impact Pakistan’s agricultural sector and weaken its GDP.

From May 13 to 23, as part of the Tiranga Yatra, the BJP will organize nationwide processions where the Tricolour will be carried by participants, including prominent figures from various sectors of society. The campaign aims to showcase “PM Modi’s resolve, the determination, and the valor of the Armed Forces,” according to the party.
