Shashi Tharoor’s Poetic Jibe at Pakistan After Ceasefire Violations
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took a poetic swipe at Pakistan on social media, hours after fresh ceasefire violations were reported along the international border despite a recently announced truce between the two nations.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Tharoor wrote: “Uski fitrat hai mukar jaane ki… uske vaade par yakeen kaise karu?” — which translates to “It’s their nature to go back on their word. How can I trust their promise?” He also tagged the post with #ceasefireviolated.
Tharoor’s remark followed his earlier statement during the escalating standoff, where he warned that Pakistan “would know better than to escalate,” referring to India’s calibrated Operation Sindoor — a limited strike on terror targets in Pakistan conducted in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
“I believe India’s position has been clear and consistent: if you don’t escalate, we won’t escalate. We are not the ones creating a war,” Tharoor had said, underscoring New Delhi’s restrained and measured approach.
However, by Saturday night, reports emerged of firings and drone sightings along border areas — stretching from Srinagar and Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir to Barmer in Rajasthan and Kutch in Gujarat.
Responding to the incidents, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri urged Pakistan to take immediate steps to curb the violations, affirming that Indian armed forces were delivering a firm and proportionate response on the ground.
