A week ago, a decomposed body was discovered in a vacant plot in West Delhi, triggering a police investigation that has now led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Rahul, an e-rickshaw driver, had been reported missing since the evening of May 5.
According to police, the juvenile allegedly killed Rahul following a personal dispute and a desire for revenge. The incident came to light on May 9, when authorities received a call about a foul odor coming from the plot. Upon reaching the spot, police found the body in an advanced stage of decomposition. A missing person’s report had already been filed for Rahul by his family at the local police station.
Forensic experts from the FSL team examined the crime scene, and the body was sent to DDU Hospital for post-mortem. A murder case was registered, and an intensive investigation was launched.
As part of the probe, police teams scanned CCTV footage from the surrounding area and tapped into a network of local informers. Through a combination of surveillance, technical analysis, and informant inputs, investigators zeroed in on a suspect — a teenager known to have had a history of conflicts with the victim.
A raid was conducted at a specific location, and the juvenile was apprehended. During initial questioning, the boy confessed to having a prior altercation with Rahul. He claimed that on the evening of the incident, the two were drinking together when a heated argument erupted. In a fit of rage, the juvenile allegedly smothered Rahul to death. However, officials said the teenager has been giving conflicting accounts of the incident.
“He has admitted to a quarrel and confessed to the murder, but his statements have been inconsistent. Further questioning is underway to ascertain the exact motive and circumstances,” said DCP (Outer Delhi) Sachin Sharma.
The investigation is ongoing, with police trying to piece together the full sequence of events that led to the murder.
