Police have detained nine people, including a private bank manager, after recovering ₹5 crore in cash from a dry cleaning shop in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district. The cash allegedly belongs to Axis Bank, an official said.
According to Superintendent of Police Noorul Hasan, some individuals reportedly convinced the Axis Bank branch manager to hand over ₹5 crore with the promise of returning ₹6 crore in exchange.
Raid & Investigation
Acting on a tip-off, teams from the crime branch, anti-terrorism cell, and local police raided a dry cleaning shop in Indira Nagar, Tumsar, on Tuesday. Officials found the ₹5 crore stash inside a box at the shop.
It took the police around two hours to count the seized cash using counting machines.
“Prima facie, the manager withdrew the cash from the bank. We have informed senior Axis Bank officials, and further details will be obtained once they arrive in Tumsar,” Hasan stated.
The bank manager and eight others are currently in police custody for questioning as investigations continue.
