Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently revealed that he begins working the moment he wakes up and maintains this routine seven days a week. “I work from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed. When I’m not working, I’m thinking about work. And when I am working, I’m working,” Huang shared with Stripe CEO Patrick Collison.
Huang noted a slight change in his wake-up time, saying, “I used to wake up at 5 a.m., but now I wake up at 6 a.m. because of my dogs. I don’t mind waking anyone else up, but I feel guilty waking the puppies.”
Reflecting on his dedication, Huang commented, “Building something great is not easy, and when you’re tackling something challenging, you’re not always enjoying it. Not every day brings me joy, but I love the company every single second.”
The Impact of Non-Stop Work on Health
Dr. Manjusha Agarwal, a senior consultant in internal medicine at Gleneagles Hospitals Parel, Mumbai, explains that diving straight into work without proper stretching or warming up can lead to muscle strain or serious injury. “It can also negatively affect mental health, causing exhaustion, burnout, and a sense of overwhelm. Taking a few minutes for relaxation and stretching after waking up can improve mood, energy levels, and focus,” Dr. Agarwal said.
For better mindfulness and stress reduction, Dr. Agarwal suggests incorporating activities such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing exercises into your morning routine.
Dr. Agarwal also highlighted the importance of sufficient sleep, stating, “Sleep is crucial for relaxation, energy conservation, injury recovery, and maintaining healthy brain function.” Sleep deprivation can lead to serious health issues like cardiovascular diseases, kidney problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and depression.
