After losing the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat to the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) orchestrated a remarkable comeback in the Jalandhar West bypoll just a month later, leveraging effective strategic moves and benefiting from favorable caste dynamics. The AAP, currently in power in Punjab, secured victory in the bypoll with an unprecedented margin of 37,325 votes.

The party’s strategy included fielding Mohinder Bhagat, a former BJP member with strong local ties, to lead their campaign. Mohinder, son of the esteemed three-time MLA and BJP minister Chuni Lal, has been a prominent figure in the constituency since the 1990s. Despite unsuccessful attempts in the 2017 and 2022 Assembly elections, Mohinder Bhagat’s candidacy proved pivotal in consolidating AAP’s support base and capitalizing on local sentiment.

AAP’s win underscored the shifting political landscape in Jalandhar West, highlighting the electorate’s endorsement of the party’s platform and leadership. The decisive victory not only reaffirmed AAP’s growing influence in Punjab but also reshaped the narrative of political dynamics in the region.
