Amid internal conflicts within the Tamil Nadu BJP, Home Minister Amit Shah’s brief conversation with former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at the swearing-in ceremony of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has gained significant attention on social media. In the video, Amit Shah appears to be gesturing to Soundararajan, though the exact content of their exchange remains unclear.
Some speculate that the interaction relates to the ongoing infighting within the Tamil Nadu BJP, particularly between the supporters of state president K Annamalai and Tamilisai Soundararajan. The discord emerged after the party failed to secure any seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
A faction of the party attributes the loss to Annamalai’s decision not to form an alliance with AIADMK. AIADMK leader and former state minister SP Velumani has criticized Annamalai for the split. Tamilisai, who lost the Chennai South seat, also believes the BJP-AIADMK alliance could have won up to 35 seats if it had continued.
Following the election defeat, Soundararajan criticized Annamalai in an interview, sparking a backlash from his supporters online. This led to an escalating confrontation between their respective factions on social media.
DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai criticized Amit Shah, questioning the appropriateness of publicly reprimanding a prominent female politician. “What kind of politics is this? Is it polite to publicly reprimand a prominent female politician from Tamil Nadu? Amit Shah should know that everyone will see this. A very wrong example!” he stated.
