Light Rain and Gusty Winds Hit Parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday Evening
Parts of Delhi-NCR experienced light rain on Tuesday evening, with some areas also witnessing gusty winds.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall measurements included 6 mm at Pitampura, 5.6 mm at Palam, 2 mm at Delhi University, 1 mm at SPS Mayur Vihar, 0.6 mm at Safdarjung, and 0.5 mm each at Narela and Najafgarh. Gurgaon also recorded 0.5 mm of rain.
Accompanying the evening showers were gusty winds. Pitampura recorded wind speeds of 50 kmph, followed by Palam at 46 kmph. Winds of 35 kmph were reported in Jafarpura (Southwest Delhi) and Lodhi Road (South Delhi).
The IMD noted intense convective activity over Delhi, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, indicating the vertical movement of heat and moisture in the atmosphere. However, the department ruled out any heatwave conditions for Delhi over the next week.
For Wednesday and Thursday, the IMD forecast a partly cloudy sky with surface winds reaching speeds of up to 35 kmph. Temperatures are expected to dip gradually by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius by the weekend.
On Tuesday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 40.2°C, which was 0.7°C above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 27.7°C, two degrees above normal.
Rainfall is expected again on Friday, accompanied by gusty winds of up to 50 kmph during thunderstorms. From May 17 to 19, partly cloudy skies are anticipated, with temperatures ranging between 27°C and 40°C.
