Operation Sindoor: Government Calls All-Party Meet as Tensions Escalate with Pakistan

A day after India’s Operation Sindoor triggered heightened tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the central government has convened an all-party meeting on Thursday morning to brief political leaders on the military operation and the prevailing security situation.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the meeting will be held at 11 am on May 8 in Committee Room: G-074 at the Parliament Library Building. It is expected that senior government officials and military representatives will brief leaders from across the political spectrum on the precision strikes conducted by Indian armed forces against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Discussions are also likely to cover the aftermath of the operation and India’s strategic response in the coming days.

Pakistan Shelling Claims 13 Lives in Kashmir

Meanwhile, intense cross-border shelling by the Pakistani military on Wednesday killed 13 people, including 12 civilians and one Indian Army officer, in Jammu and Kashmir. The shelling coincided with the day of Operation Sindoor, leaving over 50 others injured, among them two CRPF personnel.

In light of the escalating situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah instructed India’s border states to strengthen defensive infrastructure and remain on high alert against possible retaliatory strikes from Islamabad.

Nationwide Mock Drills Conducted Amid Tensions

As a precautionary measure, the government conducted extensive mock drills across 244 civil defence districts on Wednesday. These exercises included the sounding of air raid sirens, staged blackouts, evacuations, and the setup of temporary healthcare facilities. Hundreds of defence and civil protection personnel were deployed to oversee the drills, which aimed to prepare the civilian population for any potential emergency amid rising hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
