Who Was Muthappa Rai?
Muthappa Rai, a former underworld don, began his career as a bank employee in Bengaluru. He reportedly entered the world of crime while running a cabaret bar on Brigade Road, eventually turning to violence to protect his business interests from rival gangs.
Rai rose to notoriety in 1989 after orchestrating the ambush and murder of rival gangster MP Jayaraj, an event that established his dominance in the city’s underworld. Later in life, he distanced himself from crime and rebranded as a businessman and philanthropist. He died of brain cancer on May 15, 2020.
