Sunny Deol Opens Up About Reuniting With Shah Rukh Khan, 30 Years After Darr Fallout
It’s been over three decades since Darr hit theatres in 1993 — and since then, actors Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan hadn’t exactly been on the best of terms. But now, the ice seems to be thawing. Sunny has extended an olive branch, expressing interest in sharing the screen with Shah Rukh once again.
Sunny Ready to Team Up Again?
In a recent appearance on Pinkvilla’s Masterclass, Sunny Deol was asked which actor he’d like to collaborate with in a two-hero film. Without hesitation, he hinted at Shah Rukh Khan, revealing he’d be open to reuniting with the superstar.
“I did only one film with Shah Rukh. So we can definitely do another,” Sunny said. “That was a different era — now things have changed, and it would be nice to work together again.”
Sunny also spoke about how filmmaking dynamics have evolved over the years. “Earlier, our directors had complete control. Nowadays, they don’t have as much, and stories aren’t written in a way that always justifies the image or persona of actors. That needs to come back,” he added.
A Look Back at Their Feud
The tension between the two actors began during the making of Darr, in which Shah Rukh Khan played an obsessive stalker, and Sunny portrayed the heroic lead. Deol was reportedly upset that SRK’s negative character was given a more prominent and sympathetic portrayal — something he hadn’t expected.
Recalling the experience during an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny said, “People loved me in the film, and they loved Shah Rukh too. My issue was that I didn’t know they would glorify the villain. I work with trust and an open heart. Unfortunately, not everyone in the industry operates that way.”
It’s said that the two stars didn’t speak for 16 years following the incident. However, time seems to have softened old wounds, and Sunny’s recent remarks suggest a willingness to turn the page.
As fans of both actors, we can only hope a fresh collaboration is on the horizon — maybe this time, with no misunderstandings and a blockbuster in the making.
