PM Modi Attends Mauritius National Day, Strengthens Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the second day of his State Visit to Mauritius, will be the chief guest at the country’s National Day celebrations on Wednesday. This follows his meeting with Mauritius President Dharam Gokhool on Tuesday.

During his visit, Modi is expected to hold discussions with Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, senior officials, and political leaders. He will also engage with the Indian diaspora and inaugurate over 20 India-funded projects focused on capacity building and infrastructure development. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a line of credit will be signed.

India remains one of Mauritius’ largest trading partners, with around 70% of its population being of Indian origin. Ahead of the visit, India reaffirmed its support for Mauritius in its negotiations with the UK over the Chagos Islands dispute—a topic expected to feature in Modi’s talks with the Mauritian leadership.

Telangana Budget Session Begins Amid Political Tensions

The Telangana Assembly’s Budget session commences on Wednesday, marked by political confrontations between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and BJP.

The session will open with an address by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, while the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting will determine the agenda and duration. Sources suggest that the state Budget will be presented on March 19.

The government plans to introduce legislation on Scheduled Caste (SC) sub-categorization and increase Backward Classes (BC) reservations from 23% to 42%—a key Congress election promise.

Political tensions are set to escalate, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accusing Union Minister and BJP state president G Kishan Reddy of obstructing Hyderabad Metro expansion, Musi River redevelopment, and the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project. Kishan Reddy has denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, the BRS has launched attacks on the Congress government for alleged governance failures. On Tuesday, Congress leaders urged Speaker G Prasad Kumar to withhold the salary of BRS chief and former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao for not attending Assembly sessions.

YSRCP Protests Against Andhra Government’s ‘Failures’

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has called for statewide protests in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, highlighting what they describe as failures of the NDA-led state government in addressing youth and student issues.

The “Yuvatha Poru” (Youth Struggle) program, led by YSRCP president and former CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, aims to pressure the ruling coalition over alleged unfulfilled promises. The protest coincides with the YSRCP’s formation day celebrations.
