Delhi Records a Dip in Temperature as Air Quality Remains ‘Moderate’ for Fourth Day

Clear skies and cold northwesterly winds on Monday brought Delhi’s minimum temperature below 10°C, settling at 9.6°C—four degrees below normal. Meanwhile, the city’s air quality index (AQI) remained ‘moderate’ for the fourth consecutive day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) noted that the minimum temperature drop was due to clear skies and northwesterly winds, which are also expected to prevent a sharp rise in maximum temperatures over the coming days.

On Sunday, the minimum temperature was 14.2°C, while the maximum temperature reached 27°C, slightly lower than Saturday’s 28.6°C. Monday’s maximum temperature was forecasted to be between 28-30°C, but a gradual dip of 1-2°C is expected from Tuesday to Friday, bringing it down to 25-28°C due to the persistence of cold winds. Wind speeds of 20-30 km/h are also likely on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Air Quality Outlook

At 9 AM on Monday, Delhi recorded an AQI of 124 (‘moderate’), while at 4 PM on Sunday, it stood at 125 (‘moderate’).

According to the Early Warning System for Delhi (EWS), strong winds will likely help maintain ‘moderate’ air quality until at least Wednesday. However, from Thursday onward, the AQI may fluctuate between the ‘moderate’ and ‘poor’ categories for the following six days.
