Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Prayagraj on Saturday to participate in the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. He began his visit by taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythological Saraswati rivers.

During his visit, Rajnath Singh is also scheduled to perform religious rituals at prominent sites, including Akshaya Vat, Patalpuri Temple, Saraswati Kund, and Hanuman Temple.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, is expected to draw millions of devotees and will continue until February 26, 2025.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inspect the arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of pilgrims during this massive event.

Saturday marks the sixth day of the Maha Kumbh, with large crowds expected for the auspicious Amrit Snan, a significant bathing festival. Devotees believe that bathing in the Sangam during these sacred moments cleanses them spiritually.

The first Amrit Snan took place on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti. The second is scheduled for January 29 on Mauni Amavasya, followed by the third on February 3 for Basant Panchami.

To ensure safety during the bathing rituals, a team of 220 expert divers from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed. The divers work in shifts, supported by 700 boats for continuous vigilance. Security personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, PAC, water police, and healthcare teams are also coordinating efforts to maintain order and safety.

To accommodate the growing influx of pilgrims and tourists, the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) has expanded lodging facilities. A 300-bed deluxe dormitory has been set up within the Maha Kumbh area, offering premium accommodation options to visitors.
