When Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal hit theaters a little over a year ago, it was dubbed India’s most violent film, shocking audiences with its graphic violence, blood, and gore. Then came Kill, starring Lakshya, which tried to outdo its predecessor, leaving fans wondering if any film could push the envelope further. Now, a new Malayalam film has done just that, earning the title of India’s most violent film, at least according to some viewers. Reports have surfaced of audience members vomiting in theaters due to the intense gore.
Marco, the latest Malayalam action thriller starring Unni Mukundan, is generating buzz for its extreme violence. Directed by Haneef Adeni, this revenge story also features Siddique, Jagadish, Abhimanyu S Thilakan, and Kabir Duhan Singh. After its initial screenings, many viewers claimed the film surpassed even Animal, Kill, and the KGF franchise in terms of bloodshed. One viewer shared their experience with Manorama, saying, “The woman sitting next to me threw up on my shirt because she couldn’t handle the violent scenes.”
The film has garnered particular attention for its depiction of graphic violence against children, a rare and disturbing theme in Indian cinema. Marco has been compared to international action films like John Wick and Sin City for its gritty tone.
Released on December 20, Marco has been a massive box office hit, grossing ₹25 crore net in India within the first six days and nearly ₹50 crore worldwide. In Kerala alone, the film has earned ₹25.25 crore, surpassing the earnings of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule in the state, despite the latter having been in theaters for over three weeks. This marks a significant achievement for Marco, which was made on a budget of just ₹30 crore. It is now the highest-grossing adult-rated Malayalam film ever and is locking horns with superstar Mohanlal’s Barroz for box office supremacy.
