Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again reaffirmed India’s unwavering support for Palestine while expressing grave concern over the escalating security and humanitarian situation in the region. In a letter dated November 26, marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to supporting the development of Palestine’s people.
The Prime Minister called for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and an end to terrorism, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian aid to reach those affected. He stated, “India calls for an immediate ceasefire, an end to all acts of terrorism, the release of hostages, and the sustained delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine.” The Palestinian Embassy in New Delhi welcomed the message, highlighting its importance.
The letter highlighted the tragic loss of life and the immense suffering caused by the ongoing conflict. PM Modi expressed deep concern over security and reaffirmed India’s belief that dialogue and diplomacy are essential for a peaceful and lasting resolution. He reiterated India’s position on supporting a negotiated two-state solution, envisioning a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine living peacefully alongside Israel.
Since the outbreak of the conflict in October 2023, India has condemned terrorism, particularly Hamas’ attacks on Israel, while continuously advocating for a peaceful two-state solution to resolve the issue. PM Modi also emphasized India’s role as a steadfast development partner for Palestine, promising continued support through people-centric projects in various sectors based on the needs and priorities of the Palestinian people.
Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, chargé d’affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in New Delhi, expressed gratitude for PM Modi’s message, reinforcing India’s support for a viable Palestinian state and a diplomatic path to achieving peace. He also welcomed India’s call for an immediate ceasefire to stop the Israeli military actions in Gaza and appreciated India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.
PM Modi’s stance on Palestine has remained consistent, as seen in his bilateral meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the UN General Assembly in September. In this meeting, Modi again expressed deep concern over the Gaza crisis and reiterated that only a two-state solution could bring lasting peace to the region. He also referenced India’s long-standing support for Palestine at the United Nations and its sustained humanitarian efforts to aid the Palestinian people.
