Shweta Bachchan has unveiled the secret behind her parents, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s, impressive skin.
According to Shweta, the Bachchan family has incorporated mustard oil into their wellness routines. “I’m really scared of needles,” she explained. “I would love to undergo various treatments, but the fear of needles and pain makes me hesitant. So, my only option is to take good care of my skin. I believe that 80 percent of your skin is influenced by genetics and diet, and my parents have great skin.” She shared these insights on Mira Kapoor’s YouTube series, Skin & Within.
Shweta added, “The one common factor they both share is mustard oil. My mom consumes a lot of fish and other dishes that use mustard oil, which is common in Bengali cuisine. My dad applies mustard oil to his face and body. They have never had any cosmetic treatments, and for ages 81 and 76, they have remarkably good skin.”
To learn more about the benefits of mustard oil for the skin, we consulted Dr. Rinky Kapoor, a consultant dermatologist at The Esthetic Clinics. She explained that mustard oil is believed to enhance complexion, reduce fine lines, and improve skin elasticity. Some also think it promotes better blood circulation and can help manage dark circles under the eyes.
Dr. Kapoor highlighted that mustard oil is traditionally used to renew skin cells and treat issues like chapped lips and wrinkles. However, while these benefits sound promising, there is no substantial scientific evidence proving that mustard oil directly contributes to achieving great skin.
“It’s essential to remember that just because mustard oil is believed to have benefits, it doesn’t mean it’s proven effective for skincare,” Dr. Kapoor cautioned.
When asked whether everyone should use mustard oil, she advised caution. “It’s better for people to avoid using mustard oil on their skin. Following trends or viral posts on social media can be risky,” she stated. Many home remedies, including mustard oil, have not undergone extensive research to validate their efficacy or safety for skincare. Although some may have found success with mustard oil, its results can vary from person to person. Dr. Kapoor emphasized, “It’s not advisable to use any oil without understanding how it reacts with your skin.”
Additionally, mustard oil can cause side effects such as allergic reactions, inflammation, burning, redness, and tingling sensations. Dr. Kapoor warned that these adverse reactions make mustard oil a risky choice for regular skincare. “Using mustard oil can trigger these issues, and it’s not worth taking that chance,” she advised.
