Actors go to great lengths to perfect their on-screen characters, and Taapsee Pannu is no exception as she prepares for her role in Gandhari. With immense enthusiasm, she is diving into her training regimen, which includes strength training and aerial yoga. According to Filmfare, the Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba star is focusing on building strength, flexibility, and stamina.
Taapsee, who champions the values of “self-belief, conviction, and a dedicated fitness routine,” recently shared snippets from her aerial training session on Instagram, playfully captioning, “Aerial shaerial… N all that jazz…” alongside hashtags like #AerialYoga, #LoveToHang, and #BloodRush.
To understand the benefits of this training combination, we consulted fitness experts.
Consultant neurologist Dr. Sudhir Kumar from Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad endorsed strength training, stating, “It increases muscle strength and lean body mass while reducing body fat. Additionally, strength training enhances glucose metabolism, improves lipid parameters by reducing LDL cholesterol and serum triglycerides, and raises HDL cholesterol levels, ultimately lowering blood pressure.”
Yoga trainer Mansi Gulati, who specializes in aerial yoga, noted that consistent practice allows practitioners to achieve deeper stretches, greater flexibility, and increased core strength. She explained that performing even familiar traditional yoga poses in the air can be more challenging. For instance, the aerial boat pose demands additional core strength to maintain balance compared to its ground-based counterpart.
“Aerial yoga uses gravity to your advantage, requiring your core to work harder to stay balanced. When off the ground, your core muscles must engage more to stabilize your body,” Gulati added.
She also highlighted that suspended postures activate smaller, deeper muscles that often go unnoticed in traditional ground exercises.
Gulati further elaborated on how this combination of training benefits overall fitness, stating, “It enhances flexibility, core strength, posture, stress relief, and muscle training. The holistic approach also promotes better balance and mental well-being.”
Yoga trainer Ira Trivedi echoed Gulati’s sentiments, affirming the importance of both practices. “Aerial yoga’s suspension and anti-gravity effects are particularly beneficial for inversions and joint health, while strength training is essential for building muscle mass. However, it’s crucial to perform all exercises under professional supervision,” Trivedi cautioned.
