Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has requested a meeting with Lt Governor VK Saxena for Tuesday, with indications that he might tender his resignation, according to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party also plans to hold a meeting at Kejriwal’s residence at 11:30 am to discuss potential successors for the Chief Minister position.
Recently released on bail in the excise policy case, Kejriwal had announced on Sunday that he would resign within 48 hours and called for early elections in Delhi. He has pledged not to continue as Chief Minister until he receives a “certificate of honesty” from the people.
AAP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) has been actively involved in selecting a successor. During Monday’s PAC meeting at Kejriwal’s official residence, party leaders provided feedback on potential replacements. Another round of discussions will take place during Tuesday’s legislative party meeting.
In related news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Odisha on Tuesday to launch the state government’s ‘Subhadra’ yojana. Modi will also lay the foundation stone and inaugurate railway projects worth Rs 2,800 crore. The ‘Subhadra’ scheme aims to provide Rs 50,000 to eligible women between 21 and 60 years old over five years, starting from 2024-25.
