A heated monsoon session of the Jharkhand Assembly is set to commence on Friday, with the Opposition BJP aiming to corner the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government on issues like corruption, deteriorating law and order, and infiltration.
This will be the last session of the fifth Jharkhand Assembly as the state heads to polls later this year. Governor CP Radhakrishnan has approved the week-long session, which will include six working days and conclude on August 2. The ruling alliance is expected to highlight the government’s achievements ahead of the elections.
Bengal BJP Rally Against Hike in Power Bills
The West Bengal BJP will hold a rally on Friday to protest against the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation after the Calcutta High Court granted permission last week.
The HC allowed the BJP to hold the rally with a maximum of 1,000 supporters, provided they adhere to noise pollution regulations and do not inconvenience the public. The BJP sought police permission to hold the rally over the alleged increase in electricity bills, requesting necessary direction from the authorities to proceed.
The West Bengal government’s counsel argued that as there has been no hike in electricity charges by CESC, the need for a demonstration does not arise.
