Rakul Preet Singh is not only extremely meticulous about her diet but also ensures her parents follow suit. When her mother Rini Singh developed acidity issues, the actor took a decisive step by completely banning her from drinking tea. “It’s for her own good. She kept complaining about feeling acidic, so I told her to stop drinking chai altogether. Not just cut down, but stop. If something is harmful to your body, you need to quit it for a while and then reintroduce it. I suggested they detox,” Rakul explained in a conversation with Zoom.
Acidity issues can arise due to various factors, as explained by Dr. Nandini Sarwate, Chief Nutritional Advisor at Utopian Drinks. These factors include:
- Consumption of spicy and fatty foods
- Intake of caffeine and alcohol
- Overeating
- Sedentary lifestyle, which slows down digestion
- Obesity
- Smoking
- Stress
Dr. Sarwate advises against consuming tea first thing in the morning, immediately after meals, or as a meal replacement. “Instead of having tea on an empty stomach, opt for a glass of water, fruit, yogurt, smoothie, or natural juice. Drinking tea on an empty stomach can lead to heartburn or indigestion,” she cautioned.
Regarding the impact of tea on acidity, Dr. Sarwate mentioned that consuming tea in moderate amounts generally does not cause acidity issues. “Drinking up to two cups of tea a day is usually fine. However, persistent acidity problems could indicate an underlying health issue or a sedentary lifestyle,” she added.
Simply reducing tea intake may offer some relief from acidity, but addressing the root causes and making lifestyle changes are crucial for effective management. “It’s important to consider lifestyle modifications and address potential underlying causes for better management of acidity,” Dr. Sarwate emphasized.
To manage acidity-related issues, Dr. Sarwate suggests adopting a healthier lifestyle and dietary habits. “Avoid drinking tea on an empty stomach, reduce overall tea consumption, and consider replacing some tea servings with fruits and smoothies,” she recommended.
