Google has launched Gemini, an AI assistant app in India, offering support for multiple Indian languages for free. This app is designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and includes new features like advanced data analysis and file uploads. Users can also chat with Gemini in Google Messages, initially in English.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the launch on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Today, we’re launching the Gemini mobile app in India, available in English and 9 Indian languages.”
Multilingual Support and New Features
The Gemini app now supports Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. Users can interact with the app by typing, talking, or uploading images. According to Google’s official blog post, the app can assist with tasks like changing a flat tire based on a picture or writing a perfect thank you note, showcasing its conversational and multimodal capabilities.
To start using the Gemini app on Android, download it from the Google Play Store or opt-in through Google Assistant. You can activate Gemini by corner swiping, pressing the power button on select phones, or saying “Hey Google.” The app also allows users to summarize and find information from Gmail or Google Drive and generate images on the fly.
For iOS users, Gemini access will be available through the Google app in the coming weeks.
Gemini Advanced Features
Gemini Advanced in India is powered by the Gemini 1.5 Pro AI model, capable of handling complex tasks. It can process extensive information from documents, emails, videos, and codebases. Users can upload large documents (up to 1,500 pages) and summarize up to 100 emails. Gemini Advanced offers quick summaries, personalized feedback, and actionable insights. It can also analyze spreadsheets, such as Google Sheets and Excel, and visualize data into interactive charts and graphs.
Integration with Google Services
Gemini helps draft messages, brainstorm ideas, or plan events without leaving the Messages app. Initially, it will be available in Google Messages in English.
Additionally, similar to Google Assistant, users can set timers, make calls, and set reminders using voice commands.
This launch represents a significant step in Google’s efforts to create a versatile, conversational, and helpful AI assistant.
