Modi Slams Mamata Government, Says Bengal Needs Freedom from Violence and Corruption

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, declaring that West Bengal needs “freedom from the politics of violence, appeasement, riots, and corruption.” Speaking at a rally in Alipurduar, north Bengal, Modi said the people of the state are yearning for the BJP’s model of development.

“West Bengal is facing crises on all fronts,” the Prime Minister said. “There is rising violence and lawlessness, our mothers and sisters face growing insecurity, youth are grappling with unemployment and hopelessness, trust in the system is eroding, and the ruling party’s selfish politics has robbed the poor of their rights.”

Modi accused the TMC of widespread corruption, saying it has devastated the future of Bengal’s youth and poor. Citing the teacher recruitment scam, he claimed the TMC has destroyed the careers of thousands of aspiring educators, putting the future of lakhs of students at risk. “Even now, they refuse to accept their mistakes, blaming the courts instead,” he said.

He also condemned recent violence in Murshidabad and Malda, calling it proof of the state government’s “ruthlessness” and failure to maintain law and order. “Appeasement has emboldened hooliganism. When ruling party members burn homes and the police remain mute spectators, what kind of governance is that?” he asked.

Modi stressed that the judiciary has had to step in repeatedly to resolve issues in Bengal, as public trust in the TMC government continues to erode.

Turning to national security, the Prime Minister referenced the recent Pahalgam terror attack and said “Operation Sindoor” was India’s strong response. “The attack in Pahalgam wasn’t just against India—it was an assault on humanity and unity,” he said. “But India is more united than ever. Our reply to terror was decisive and the world is watching.”

He concluded by accusing Pakistan of targeting civilians after the destruction of terror camps and reaffirmed India’s commitment to defending its people and sovereignty.
