Shashi Tharoor Issues Stern Warning to Pakistan from Guyana: ‘No Impunity for Civilian Killings’
In a powerful message against Pakistan’s ongoing support for cross-border terrorism, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor declared in Guyana on Sunday that India would never allow those responsible for killing its civilians to escape unpunished.
Leading a multi-party delegation tasked with rallying international support against Islamabad’s backing of terrorism, Tharoor emphasized India’s commitment not just to bring perpetrators to justice but also to act against those who fund, train, and arm them.
“Our message is very clear,” Tharoor said in Georgetown, fresh from a US visit. “We must confront terrorism wherever it arises. It’s not enough to punish the killers; we must also hold accountable those financing, training, and directing them.”
Pointing out that India has endured four decades of terrorism, he said New Delhi has reached a point of “resolved determination” against such acts.
“We will never let anyone believe they can cross our borders, harm our civilians, and get away with it. There’s a price to be paid, and that’s the message India is sending to the world,” he added.
Operation Sindoor and Global Diplomacy
The delegation, which includes MPs and leaders from across parties such as BJP, Shiv Sena, Lok Janshakti Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Telugu Desam Party, and former Indian ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, is also briefing world leaders about Operation Sindoor.
Under this recent operation, India destroyed nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, repelled retaliatory attacks targeting civilians and military infrastructure, and conducted precision strikes on key Pakistani airbases.
Support from Guyana’s Leadership
The Indian delegation met Guyana’s Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo and Prime Minister Mark Phillips at the Presidential Palace in Georgetown. The leaders of Guyana reaffirmed their unwavering support for India’s fight against terrorism.
“The delegation elaborated on India’s position regarding Pahalgam, Operation Sindoor, and the Indus Waters Treaty, underscoring India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism,” the Indian High Commission in Georgetown posted on X.
“Hon’ble VP reiterated Guyana’s steadfast support for India’s anti-terrorism stance,” the statement added.
Appeal to the Indian Diaspora
Tharoor also called upon the Indian diaspora in Guyana to stand united against terrorism and bolster India’s global campaign.
“We’re urging all of you to express your support, strength, and resolve in response to any such acts if they occur in the future. That is the core purpose of our visit,” he stated.
