India’s Envoy to UK Slams Pakistan’s Claims After ‘Operation Sindoor’: ‘What Are They Retaliating Against?’

Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, on Thursday firmly rejected Pakistan’s claims in the aftermath of India’s “Operation Sindoor,” which targeted terrorist infrastructure across the border.

In an interview with Sky News anchor Yalda Hakim, Doraiswami took aim at Pakistan’s reaction, asking pointedly, “What are they retaliating about?” He underlined that Pakistan’s response was to strikes on terrorist hideouts, adding, “What does that tell you of their relationship with these terror groups?”

Doraiswami further reminded that the chain of escalation began with Pakistan’s brutal attack on April 22, where 26 civilians were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam region.

Clarifying India’s stance, the envoy emphasized that New Delhi deliberately avoided targeting any Pakistani military or national infrastructure to prevent further escalation. “Our strikes were precise, targeted, reasonable, and moderate,” he said.

Referring to Pakistan’s claim that it had shot down Indian aircraft using Chinese-made fighter jets, Doraiswami dismissed the assertion, stating, “If it satisfies Pakistan’s ego to say they’ve done something, they could have used that as an off-ramp to move on. Clearly, they’ve chosen not to and have instead escalated.”

On Islamabad’s threats of further military action, Doraiswami was unequivocal: “We will respond proportionally and in exactly the same light.”

He also highlighted Pakistan’s continued artillery fire along the Line of Control over the past 15 days, which has resulted in civilian casualties.

Fresh Pakistani Attack Thwarted

A day after India’s airstrikes under Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted a retaliatory assault late Thursday night, launching drone and missile attacks aimed at Indian military installations.

According to the Ministry of Defence, strategic bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur were primary targets. However, the Indian armed forces intercepted and neutralized the incoming threats, successfully preventing damage across at least 15 cities in northern and western India, including key areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.
