Ajay Jadeja Rebukes Shubman Gill for Downplaying Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s Record-Breaking IPL Century
Former India batter Ajay Jadeja didn’t hold back as he expressed his displeasure over Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill’s remarks on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s sensational 101-run knock. Playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, the 14-year-old prodigy became the youngest centurion in IPL history, smashing a blistering hundred off just 35 balls at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Suryavanshi’s electrifying innings, laced with eight fours and 11 sixes, powered Rajasthan Royals to a thumping eight-wicket win, chasing down a stiff 210-run target with 25 balls to spare.
After the match, when asked about the young batter’s remarkable performance, Gill brushed it off, calling it Suryavanshi’s “lucky day.”
“It was his (lucky) day. His hitting was tremendous, and he made the most of it,” Gill told the host broadcaster.
Jadeja was visibly unimpressed by the dismissive tone. Speaking on JioStar after the match, he responded sharply:
“But a 14-year-old to believe in himself like that, to take the game that far… even if it’s just, you know — as some player on television said — ‘a lucky day.’ That comment didn’t sit right,” Jadeja remarked, hinting at Gill without directly naming him, before being cut off by the post-match presentation.

The young left-hander showed no fear as he took on some of India’s seasoned bowlers, including Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. In one over bowled by Ishant Sharma, Suryavanshi hammered 28 runs, and followed it up with 30 runs off Karim Janat in another.
Opening alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, the pair stitched together a stunning 166-run partnership for the first wicket. Suryavanshi eventually fell for 101 off 38 balls, dismissed by Prasidh Krishna, but by then, the damage had been done.
Reflecting on the youngster’s performance, Jadeja added:
“All of us, at 14 or 15, dreamt about cricket in our own ways — in drawing rooms or gullies. This boy went out there and lived that dream on a grand stage. His power is one thing, but it’s his mindset that truly blows me away. He’s going to be analysed a hundred times, but what I admire is how he was just allowed to flow.”
Jadeja also credited India’s coaching staff, including Rahul Dravid and Vikram Rathour, for creating an environment where young talents like Suryavanshi can thrive. “Great credit to the management for letting him express himself. That’s what makes this even more special.”
