India Bans 16 Pakistani YouTube Channels for Spreading Misinformation After Pahalgam Attack

India has blocked 16 YouTube channels based in Pakistan for allegedly disseminating communally sensitive and misleading content following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. According to government sources, the decision was made on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, just days after 26 people lost their lives in the brutal assault.

Among the banned channels are prominent Pakistani news outlets such as Geo News, Dawn, Raftar, Bol News, ARY News, Samaa TV, and Suno News. In addition, YouTube channels belonging to well-known journalists including Muneeb Farooq, Umar Cheema, Asma Shirazi, and Irshad Bhatti have also been taken down. Other banned platforms include Uzair Cricket, The Pakistan Reference, Razi Naama, and Samaa Sports. Collectively, these channels had amassed a subscriber base of around 63 million.

Officials claim these platforms were circulating provocative, communally charged, and false narratives targeting India, its Army, and security agencies in the aftermath of the attack — further straining relations between the two nations.

About the Pahalgam Terror Attack

The terror attack, which occurred on April 22 in Baisaran meadow, near the tourist hub of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, is one of the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF jawans. In the latest strike, terrorists opened fire on civilians, killing 26 people.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has since intensified its probe, with teams led by senior officials including an IG, DIG, and SP stationed at the site since April 23. Investigators are actively questioning eyewitnesses and collecting evidence.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army remains on high alert, launching extensive search operations to locate and neutralize the attackers. The incident has triggered widespread outrage and protests across the country, with demonstrators demanding stringent action against Pakistan over its alleged support for cross-border terrorism.
