Harjot Singh Bains Slams Opposition Over Criticism of ‘Sikhya Kranti’ School Projects
School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains strongly criticized opposition parties for engaging in “petty politics” regarding infrastructure development under the ‘Sikhya Kranti’ initiative in Punjab’s government schools.
Speaking at a press conference, Bains accused the Congress, SAD, and BJP of neglecting government schools for decades, leaving students without even basic amenities like toilets and boundary walls. He shared alarming accounts from his visits to schools, where students and teachers reported the absence of essential facilities. Some were forced to relieve themselves outdoors, while students sat on the ground due to a lack of desks.
The AAP government is facing opposition criticism over the installation of inauguration plaques for minor works like toilet and classroom repairs. Bains defended the move, pointing out that before the current government took charge, over 3,000 schools had no bathrooms, and 8,000 lacked boundary walls.
He continued, “Their children study in schools with air-conditioned bathrooms and tight security, while our students had to go without basic facilities.”
On the opposition’s criticism of the plaques, Bains remarked that the opposition was upset because the AAP government had achieved in three years what they failed to do in 75 years. “These plaques are not just nameplates; they serve as a reminder of the failures of the Congress and Akali-BJP governments in Punjab,” he added.
Bains reaffirmed the AAP government’s commitment to providing essential facilities in every government school, including separate toilets for boys and girls, boundary walls, clean drinking water, high-speed Wi-Fi, and modern classrooms with updated furniture.
