Himanta Biswa Sarma Shares Touching Note for Fellow Passenger, Sparks Online Debate

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a heartfelt message for a fellow traveller who helped him during a recent Emirates flight from Delhi to Dubai. In a candid post, Sarma thanked the “kind young gentleman” who lent him an international plug and charging cable—and apologized for unintentionally keeping the items.

“Today morning I traveled on an Emirates flight from Delhi to Dubai, where a kind young gentleman lent me his international plug and charging cable,” he wrote.

However, the CM didn’t get a chance to return the charger. “Unfortunately, he disembarked in Dubai while I was asleep, and I couldn’t return them. I’ve just now arrived in Amsterdam and feel deeply apologetic for not returning his belongings,” Sarma added.

In a sincere gesture, he requested the individual to reach out: “If this message reaches him, please send me a direct message so I can arrange to return your charger and cable promptly. Thank you for your kindness, and I regret any inconvenience caused.”

Social Media Reacts—Kindness or Concern?

The CM’s honest post struck a chord online, with many praising his humility and gratitude. “This is so kind of you,” one user wrote. Another commented, “This is interesting,” appreciating the rare moment of vulnerability from a high-ranking official.

However, not all responses were celebratory. Some users raised concerns about digital safety, warning of a cyber threat known as “juice jacking.”

What is Juice Jacking?

Juice jacking is a type of cyberattack where malicious software or data theft occurs through a USB port when a device is plugged in. While the young passenger likely had good intentions, several users reminded the CM of the risks involved in using unknown charging equipment—especially given his high-profile position.

One concerned post read: “Get your phone checked as soon as possible. The person may have had good intentions, but as a Chief Minister, there’s always a risk of tracking or data compromise.”

Another echoed the caution: “Hopefully, the gesture was genuine, but as a CM, you should avoid using someone else’s charger. Data theft through cables is a real risk.”

A Thoughtful Gesture That Sparked a Bigger Conversation

Himanta Biswa Sarma’s post not only showcased a touching moment of in-flight kindness but also opened up a broader conversation around cybersecurity, especially for public figures. Whether seen as a simple act of gratitude or a digital security oversight, the post captured attention for all the right—and thought-provoking—reasons.
