Navratri Tragedy Turns into Murder Probe: Bijnor Woman Arrested for Killing Techie Husband to Inherit Govt Job
What seemed like a heartbreaking tragedy during Navratri pooja in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor has now taken a grim turn into a murder investigation.
On Friday, 29-year-old railway technician Deepak Kumar collapsed during a religious ceremony at home. His wife, Shivani, told grieving family members that he had suffered a heart attack. Mourning his sudden demise, the family began preparations for his last rites, unaware of what lay beneath the surface.
However, suspicions arose when Deepak’s relatives, citing his status as a government employee, insisted on a postmortem before cremation. The autopsy revealed a shocking truth — Deepak had not died of natural causes. He had been strangled.
Police arrested 27-year-old Shivani on Sunday for allegedly murdering her husband, reportedly with the help of an unidentified accomplice.
Motive: A Government Job?
According to Deepak’s family, Shivani’s motive may have been to secure his railway job through a compensation appointment, a practice that allows a family member to replace a deceased government employee.
“A case has been filed against Shivani and an unknown individual. Legal proceedings will follow based on the evidence,” said Bijnor SP (City) Sanjeev Vajpayee, as quoted by The Times of India.
A Troubled Marriage
Deepak, originally from Mukrandpur village in Bijnor, married Shivani on June 17, 2023. The couple had a six-month-old son and were living in a rented home in Najibabad’s Adarsh Nagar colony.
Before joining the Indian Railways in March 2023, Deepak had served with the CRPF in Manipur.
Family members claim tensions had been brewing between Shivani and her in-laws for some time. “She even used to beat our mother,” Deepak’s brother, Piyush, alleged during police questioning.
Deepak’s mother, Pushpa, echoed the sentiment, stating, “She murdered him with someone’s help to get his job.”
The case continues to unfold as investigators work to identify the alleged accomplice and uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.
