Heated Exchange in Lok Sabha Over Waqf Amendment Bill as Akhilesh Yadav Mocks BJP, Amit Shah Hits Back
A war of words broke out in the Lok Sabha during a discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill after Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its delay in electing a new national president.
“A party that claims to be the largest in the world has yet to elect its own national president,” Yadav remarked in the House.
Responding to the jibe, Union Home Minister Amit Shah countered with a sharp retort, accusing the opposition of dynastic politics.
“Akhilesh Ji made his remark with a smile, so I will respond in the same manner. The parties sitting across from us in this House have national presidents chosen from just five family members. But in our party, we conduct a process involving 12-13 crore members, which naturally takes time. In your party, there is no delay at all,” Shah said.
BJP Leadership Timeline
JP Nadda was appointed as the BJP’s acting national president on June 17, 2019, following the Lok Sabha elections. He was formally elected as the party’s 11th national president on January 20, 2020, and has remained in the position since then.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Stand on the Waqf Amendment Bill
During the parliamentary session, Yadav reiterated his party’s opposition to the Waqf Amendment Bill, accusing the BJP of using administrative control to serve its political agenda.
“The Waqf Amendment Bill is being introduced to take control of everything. We have seen how administrative missteps have caused divisions between Hindus and Muslims. One wrong decision has created lasting rifts. The BJP wants control over Waqf so they can manipulate decisions in their favor,” Yadav argued.
He further criticized the BJP’s past policies, stating, “They scrapped reservation for Anglo-Indians, introduced GST claiming it would help businesses, but businessmen are now unhappy. They imposed demonetization, yet black money is still being recovered. Every decision they made was wrong, driven purely by political motives to secure votes.”
