Bihar Elections: BJP Expands Bihar Diwas Outreach to Mobilize Migrant Voters Nationwide
With the Bihar Assembly elections just seven months away, the BJP is intensifying its outreach to Bihari migrants across India through an extensive nine-day Bihar Diwas celebration starting March 22, the state’s foundation day.
The party has appointed General Secretary Tarun Chugh and senior leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam to spearhead the campaign. While BJP claims the initiative is part of Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat, its electoral significance is undeniable as the party looks to consolidate support among Bihari migrants.
Nationwide Campaign to Engage Migrants
According to an internal BJP strategy document, 75 two-member teams—comprising senior leaders and key functionaries—will travel across India to connect with Bihari communities. The outreach plan includes:
- Seven events each in Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Haryana
- Six each in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Punjab
- Five in Delhi
- Two each in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Karnataka
- One each in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala
The BJP teams will also work with local party units to appoint a “prabhari” (in charge) for every 50 Bihari migrant families, who will mobilize them to return to Bihar to vote. Additionally, BJP leaders in each state have been instructed to hold press conferences, celebrating Bihar Diwas and acknowledging the contributions of Bihari migrants.
Targeting 2 Crore Bihari Migrants
With approximately 2 crore Biharis residing outside Bihar, the BJP recognizes their influence in shaping election outcomes. A senior Bihar BJP leader noted that the campaign aims to assure migrants that NDA rule ensures the safety and development of their families while cautioning against the return of ‘jungle raj’ under RJD.
- The campaign will feature “Sneh Milans” (get-togethers) for migrants, fostering direct engagement.
- BJP leaders will meet with community influencers, journalists, and Chhath Pooja organizers to strengthen connections.
- Meetings will include a video presentation highlighting Bihar’s progress under NDA rule and cultural programs celebrating Bihari heritage.
High-Profile Engagement & Political Messaging
Senior BJP ministers, MPs, and prominent leaders will personally participate in outreach meetings, engaging with influential migrant Biharis. The BJP has set a target of 500 attendees per event, aiming to collect contact and professional details for continued engagement.
A BJP leader emphasized that the initiative not only mobilizes votes but also reinforces a sense of identity and political belonging among Bihari migrants. The party wants them to feel valued and connected to their home state, ensuring their support translates into electoral success for the BJP in Bihar.
