Sikkim Introduces ₹50 Tourist Entry Fee for Sustainable Development.

The Sikkim government has started charging a ₹50 entry fee for all tourists visiting the state, effective this month under the Sikkim Registration of Tourist Trade Rules 2025, officials confirmed on Friday.

How Is the Fee Collected?

• The fee is collected at hotel check-ins and deposited into the Tourism Sustainability Development (TSD) Fund.
• It applies to all tourists, except for children below five years of age.
• The charge is valid for up to 30 days, and tourists revisiting after a month will have to pay the fee again.

Why Is Sikkim Implementing This Fee?

Officials stated that the fee has been introduced as part of a sustainable tourism initiative aimed at improving infrastructure, environmental conservation, and visitor experience.

“With rising tourist footfall, it is crucial to invest in better facilities, road connectivity, and cleanliness to ensure a sustainable and enjoyable travel experience,” a government spokesperson said.
