The Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved the ‘Mahila Samridhi Yojana’, a scheme that provides ₹2,500 per month to women.
“On Women’s Day, our cabinet fulfilled the promise we made during the Delhi elections by approving this scheme,” CM Rekha Gupta announced.
She further stated that the Delhi budget has allocated ₹5,100 crore for its implementation. “A committee, led by me, has been formed, and the registration process will begin soon via a dedicated online portal,” she added.
BJP’s Election Promise Fulfilled
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had pledged this financial assistance in its ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the Delhi Assembly elections, exceeding the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) promise of ₹2,100 per month.
Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa confirmed the scheme’s rollout:
“The portal will soon go live, allowing women to apply. A three-member committee—comprising Kapil Mishra, Ashish Sood, and Pravesh Verma—has been formed to finalize eligibility and other details.”
Delhi Minister Ashish Sood added, “This government doesn’t just offer lip service. Soon, the funds will be disbursed, and the registration process will begin.”
AAP Questions the Delay
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which lost power to the BJP in Delhi, has criticized the delay in implementing the scheme.
“Before the elections, PM Narendra Modi and BJP national president JP Nadda assured that this scheme would be approved in the first cabinet meeting, and every woman in Delhi would receive ₹2,500 by March 8. However, the first cabinet meeting took place on Thursday, and no such announcement was made,” said Atishi, Delhi’s Leader of Opposition.
Despite AAP’s concerns, the BJP secured a landslide victory, winning 48 out of 70 seats, marking its return to power in Delhi after 26 years. AAP was reduced to 22 seats, while Congress failed to win any.
