Nitish Kumar’s Outburst in Bihar Legislative Council Over Girls’ Education

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lost his temper on Friday during a heated discussion in the state legislative council after RJD MLC Urmila Thakur raised concerns about the lack of girls’ schools in her area. The debate intensified when Thakur expressed her dissatisfaction with the response provided by state education minister Sunil Kumar regarding the matter.

According to PTI, Thakur highlighted the difficulties girls face in her Begusarai district, stating that in many villages, young girls cannot attend school as they have to walk four to five kilometers to reach the nearest one.

At this, visibly agitated, Nitish Kumar shot back while still seated, “Do you people even know what we have done for girls’ education? Before we came to power, village girls hardly went to school in Bihar.”

Thakur responded respectfully but firmly, saying, “Sir, please do not say that. I, too, come from a village. I belong to an older generation, yet I completed my schooling.”

The exchange escalated when another RJD MLC, Munni Devi Rajak, stood up and addressed Kumar, asserting, “We have the right to question the government. It is your job to answer.”

Sensing trouble, Thakur quickly intervened, urging Rajak to remain quiet and let her speak.

Nitish Kumar Slams Rabri Devi and the RJD

Seizing the opportunity to attack the opposition, Kumar launched a direct tirade against the RJD, stating, “You people have no idea what has been done by us for women. You may be women yourselves, but what has been your contribution?”

He then targeted former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, who now serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House. Referring to her appointment as CM in 1997, he said, “When her husband (Lalu Prasad Yadav) began to sink, he installed his wife in the CM’s post.”

Kumar’s comments were a reference to the circumstances under which Lalu Prasad Yadav, then the chief minister, was forced to resign following an arrest warrant issued against him in the fodder scam case. Rabri Devi was made the chief minister in his place, a move that was widely criticized at the time.

Fuming, Kumar further lashed out at the opposition, stating, “Your party (RJD) did nothing. You people know nothing. Whatever has been done for women, it has been done by me. Now, women have no problems.”

His remarks sparked strong reactions within the House, with RJD members protesting his statements. However, Kumar remained defiant, insisting that his government had taken unprecedented steps to improve education and empower women in Bihar.
