Delhi BJP Govt to Present 14 CAG Reports on AAP’s Tenure in Assembly Today

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi is set to table 14 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports assessing the performance of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration on the second day of the ongoing three-day Delhi Assembly session on Tuesday.

According to ANI, these reports, which were allegedly “blocked” by the AAP government, contain crucial audits of various government schemes and expenditures.

Key Reports to Be Presented:

  1. State Finances Audit Report (for the year ending March 2021)
  2. Audit of Revenue, Economic, Social, and General Sectors & PSUs (2020-21)
  3. Performance Audit on Prevention and Mitigation of Vehicular Air Pollution (2021)
  4. Audit of Children in Need of Care and Protection (2021)
  5. State Finances Audit Report (for the year ending March 2022)
  6. Performance Audit on Liquor Supply
  7. State Finances Audit Report (for the year ending March 2023)
  8. Performance Audit on Public Health Infrastructure & Health Services Management
  9. Audit Report on Delhi Transport Corporation’s Functioning
  10. CAG Performance Audit Report (for the year ending March 2022)

Additionally, four reports include finance and appropriation accounts for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23, prepared by the Delhi Controller of Accounts.

Political Backdrop:

In December 2024, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena criticized the then AAP government for failing to present these reports, even convening a special session on December 19-20 to address the delay. In a letter to former CM Atishi, now the Leader of Opposition (LoP), Saxena underscored the constitutional responsibility of presenting statutory audit reports to the Assembly.

BJP’s Allegations Against AAP:

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, leading the BJP’s first government in Delhi since 1998, has accused AAP of “misusing” public funds. She asserted that the party would be held accountable for “every penny” spent during its tenure.

The Delhi Assembly session began on Monday, with CM Rekha Gupta, 47 BJP MLAs, and 22 AAP legislators, including LoP Atishi, taking their oaths in the 70-member House.
