Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Receives Death Threat from Dausa Jail Inmate; Police Launch Probe
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has received a death threat from an inmate at Dausa’s Salaswal Jail, triggering a security alert. The incident occurred late Friday night when a 29-year-old convict, identified as Rinku, called the Jaipur police control room and threatened to kill the CM, according to police sources cited by PTI.
Rinku is currently serving a life sentence for a rape conviction. After receiving the call, law enforcement officials traced the origin of the threat to a mobile phone inside Salaswas Jail. A rigorous search operation, lasting from 3 AM to 7 AM, led to the phone’s recovery. However, the motive behind the threat remains unclear, and authorities have launched an in-depth investigation into the incident.
The pattern of Threats Against CM Sharma
This is not the first time Rajasthan’s chief minister has been targeted. In July 2024, another prisoner from Dausa Central Jail made a similar threat against Sharma. Earlier, in January, a POCSO convict incarcerated at Jaipur Central Jail had also called the Jaipur police control room, warning of an attack on the CM.
Security Concerns Beyond Rajasthan
The incident comes amid growing concerns over security threats to high-profile political leaders in India. In a separate case, Mumbai police recently received emails threatening to blow up the car of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. After tracing the threats to a mobile device, the crime branch arrested two suspects from Deulgaon Mahi village.
Additionally, in November 2023, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath was targeted with a WhatsApp message warning that he would be assassinated “like Baba Siddique” if he did not resign within 10 days.
With this latest incident, Rajasthan police have ramped up security measures around CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, while investigations continue into the origins and intent behind the threat.
