On Wednesday, several areas of Delhi-NCR, including Ghaziabad and Noida, experienced near-zero or complete zero visibility due to the dense fog.
Thick fog led to zero or low visibility in several areas of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday, causing delays for numerous trains and over 100 flights in the city.
The India Meteorological Department forecasted light rain or drizzle for the national capital on Wednesday. The minimum temperature is expected to reach 9°C, with a maximum of 19°C.
Over 100 Flights Delayed
More than 100 flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were delayed due to poor visibility, as reported by news agency PTI. However, an airport official confirmed that, as of now, no flights have been diverted or canceled.
Earlier, Delhi Airport issued an advisory for passengers amid the foggy weather conditions. In an update shared on the official X account of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), it stated: “While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may be affected.”
“Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest flight updates. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused,” the statement added.
Notably, the CAT III facility enables flight operations in low-visibility conditions.
IndiGo Airlines also issued a cautionary message to its passengers, stating, “Low visibility and fog over Delhi may cause some delays. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to ensure your journey is safe and smooth.”
“We encourage you to check your flight status through our website or app. Rest assured, our teams are here to assist you at every step and provide support,” the statement added.
Visuals from various parts of Delhi, including Dhaula Kuan, India Gate, Nirankari Colony, and Shankar Vihar, highlighted the severity of the dense fog on the roads.
