Gulmarg, the picturesque resort town in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, continues to captivate tourists this New Year season. Famous for its snow-covered peaks and stunning landscapes, Gulmarg is a go-to destination for winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.

Though the Jammu and Kashmir tourism department has opted not to hold official New Year events due to national mourning following the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the resort still sees a steady stream of visitors drawn to its natural beauty and outdoor pursuits.

Kamani Singla, a tourist from Punjab, shared her first-time experience in Gulmarg, saying, “It feels like a paradise. We’ve never seen snow before, and witnessing this heavy snowfall is truly magical.”

Another visitor, Sonu, expressed his excitement, stating, “Kashmir is a real paradise, and enjoying the New Year in Gulmarg has been so much fun.”

A major attraction in the area is the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, and enhancing the region’s appeal.

Local operator Bilal Ahmed, who runs sleds and slides, mentioned, “We have seen a lot of tourists during Christmas and New Year, which has been great for local employment. It’s also helping boost the tourism industry here.”

With local accommodations like hotels, resorts, and guesthouses filling up fast, visitors can enjoy the region’s unique cuisine and hospitality, making Gulmarg an unforgettable New Year getaway.
