Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday honored former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a poignant tribute, declaring that his contributions to Indian politics would be etched in golden letters for generations to come.
“A legendary Prime Minister, a true cult figure… His legacy will continue to inspire endlessly. Great leaders like him never fade; they live on as institutions for future generations,” Sidhu wrote on X.
Sidhu elaborated, “When the chronicles of integrity, competence, and honesty in Indian politics are written, your name will be engraved in golden letters on the very first page. There has been none like you, nor will there ever be!”
Accompanying his message, Sidhu shared an old video from the 84th Congress Plenary session in 2018, where he had publicly apologized to Singh for past remarks.
Sidhu, who switched from the Bharatiya Janata Party to the Congress in 2017, described Manmohan Singh as both “a Sardar and Sardar (impactful).”
“I bow my head in apology to Sardar Manmohan Singh. Your silence achieved what the noise of the BJP could not. It takes a visionary leader to lead with such poise,” Sidhu said during the session.
Manmohan Singh’s Passing
Manmohan Singh, widely regarded as one of India’s most respected leaders, passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 after battling age-related health issues. His demise has triggered an outpouring of grief and tributes from global leaders and citizens alike.
The government has declared seven days of State mourning to honor the former Prime Minister.
Singh’s body will be taken to the Congress headquarters at Akbar Road at 8:00 AM on Saturday, where the public can offer their respects.
Following this, a funeral procession will proceed to Nigambodh Ghat at 9:30 AM. The final rites, with full State honors, will take place at 11:45 AM.
In a significant gesture, the Union Home Ministry announced on Friday night that a memorial would be established in honor of Manmohan Singh’s lasting legacy.
