Pushpa 2 Box Office Day 1: Allu Arjun’s Sequel Shatters Records with ₹175.1 Crore Opening
Allu Arjun’s much-awaited Pushpa 2 has set the box office on fire, with its opening day collections surpassing all expectations. The film grossed an astounding ₹175.1 crore on its first day, which includes ₹165 crore nett from regular screenings and ₹10.1 crore from Telugu preview shows on Wednesday. This makes Pushpa 2 the biggest opener in Indian cinema history.
Breaking records across languages, the film earned ₹95.1 crore in Telugu, ₹67 crore in Hindi, ₹7 crore in Tamil, ₹5 crore in Malayalam, and ₹1 crore in Kannada. Notably, the film’s Hindi earnings surpassed Jawan, which made ₹65.5 crore on its opening day, giving Pushpa 2 the title of the highest Hindi opener.
According to trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, Pushpa 2 achieved a remarkable ₹282.91 crore worldwide on its opening day. The film witnessed impressive occupancy, particularly in the Telugu-speaking regions, with Hyderabad recording over 1500 shows and occupancy rates at 94%, and Bengaluru having 1000+ shows at 97% occupancy. In the Hindi markets, Delhi-NCR had over 1700 shows at 61% occupancy, while Mumbai had over 1500 shows with 57% occupancy.
With Pushpa 2 earning ₹175 crores on its opening day, it has claimed the title of India’s all-time biggest opener, surpassing previous record holders such as RRR (₹133 crores), Baahubali 2 (₹121 crore), and KGF 2 (₹116 crore). Films like Kalki 2898 AD also made impressive opening-day collections, contributing to the record-breaking atmosphere.
Releasing on Thursday, Pushpa 2 now enjoys a four-day weekend, and trade experts predict it could easily surpass ₹300 crore on its opening day, potentially pushing its worldwide weekend gross close to ₹1000 crore—a never-before-seen feat. This would place Pushpa 2 alongside the highest-grossing Indian films, including Dangal, which earned over ₹2500 crore after its China release, and Baahubali 2, which grossed ₹1788 crore globally. The film’s remarkable success signifies the growing dominance of South Indian cinema on the global stage.
