Shimla: A Favorite Winter Destination for International Tourists
Shimla’s charm continues to attract visitors from across the globe, with the winter months seeing a marked increase in international tourism. As October flowed into November, the town witnessed a steady stream of foreign tourists, drawn by its picturesque landscapes, mild climate, and rich historical heritage.
Michelle, a tourist from the UK, shared her delight after her visit: “It’s been a wonderful experience. We’ve spent three nights here, exploring, and every moment has been incredible. Shimla is such a beautiful place, the views are stunning, and the sunsets are simply mesmerizing. The warmth of the people here makes it even more special. We’ve encountered places here that remind us of England, and I think those memories will last forever.”
She also praised the town’s flora and climate: “For us, the weather is just perfect. It’s cool and refreshing, not too cold or hot. The rich blend of history and natural beauty makes Shimla an ideal place to visit for anyone wanting to experience India in a unique way.”
Tourists Flock to Shimla for Its Unique Beauty
Yvonne Ryan from Australia echoed similar sentiments about Shimla’s enchanting surroundings. “We came to India because we wanted to experience the beauty and culture that we had heard so much about, and Shimla certainly did not disappoint. The weather here is wonderful – it’s fresh and cool, much like the mountains back home in Australia. The natural beauty is breathtaking, and there’s so much to explore. It feels like we’re living the stories we’ve read about India. Unlike Delhi, with its hustle and bustle, Shimla offers a peaceful atmosphere, with clear skies and fresh air, which is truly relaxing.”
Economic Boost From the Growing Foreign Tourist Influx
Ishwar Chauhan, the manager at Combermere Hotel in Shimla, noted the rise in international tourism this autumn. “The months of October and November are crucial for attracting foreign tourists to Shimla and the larger Himachal Pradesh region. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold, and it’s the perfect time to visit. This year, we’ve seen a significant rise in the number of tourists compared to the last two years, especially during these months.”
Chauhan added that the surge in tourism positively impacts local businesses. “With more visitors, various sectors like restaurants, hotels, and transportation services are benefiting. This uptick in tourism helps boost the local economy, and we hope this trend continues.” He mentioned that, although the monsoon season had seen lower tourist turnout, the early winter months are drawing travellers from countries such as the UK, the US, Germany, and Scandinavian nations.
Shimla’s growth as a prime winter destination is being supported by the state government, which has taken proactive steps to promote tourism and enhance the experience for visitors. This includes improving infrastructure and encouraging more global travellers to explore the city’s unique blend of nature and history.
