Vicky Kaushal is set to star in Mahavatar, a highly anticipated mythological film directed by Amar Kaushik. The first look of the film, featuring Vicky as the mighty Chiranjeevi Parashurama, was shared by the makers on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday. In the posters, Vicky dons long hair and a beard and is dressed in a dhoti, wielding an axe with a fierce expression, capturing the essence of the “eternal warrior of dharma.”
Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, Mahavatar promises to bring to life the legendary figure of Parashurama, one of the most revered characters in Hindu mythology. The film is slated for release in theatres on Christmas 2026. The makers teased a brief clip along with the first look, generating excitement among fans.
Mahavatar will be Vicky’s second collaboration with Maddock Films, following the period drama Chhaava, in which Vicky portrays Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the Maratha emperor. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, will be released on December 6, 2024, and stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in pivotal roles.
In addition to these projects, Vicky will star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, an epic saga alongside Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Officially announced in January 2024, the film is set for a Christmas 2025 release and marks Vicky’s first collaboration with Bhansali, while Ranbir and Alia have worked with the filmmaker on previous projects. Love and War has generated buzz, with fans eagerly awaiting this star-studded collaboration.
