On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his visit to the United States to participate in the fourth Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware. The summit, hosted by President Joe Biden, is scheduled for September 21, with India set to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.

According to an official press release, the leaders will review the progress made by the Quad over the past year and outline the agenda for the upcoming year, aiming to support the development goals of Indo-Pacific nations.

In a significant development, PM Modi and President Biden are expected to hold a bilateral meeting during the summit. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has indicated that at least two agreements will be signed following their discussions, one pertaining to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and another a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the India-US drug framework.

Modi is also expected to update Biden on his recent discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv regarding a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Additionally, he will meet separately with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

In other news, junior doctors in West Bengal, who have been on strike for 42 days following the tragic rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar hospital, will partially resume their duties starting Saturday. They staged a march to the CBI office in Salt Lake to demand a swift investigation, covering a distance of about 4 km from the state health department’s headquarters. While they will not be working in the Outpatient Department (OPD), they will provide emergency and essential services.

Additionally, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will campaign in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday for the upcoming Assembly polls, holding a press conference at 11:45 am in Jammu, followed by a public meeting at Khour Ground in Chhamb at 1:30 pm. The Congress is collaborating with the National Conference in J&K, hoping to regain power after a decade.

Lastly, a three-day national conference for the volunteers and office bearers of the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram began on Friday in Samalakha, Haryana. The conference will cover various issues related to the organization’s activities and programs across the country, with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in attendance.
