The United Kingdom’s recent announcement of a heatwave alert at a modest 26 degrees Celsius by the end of June has sparked humorous reactions from Indians, who are accustomed to much higher temperatures.
India, renowned for its scorching summer climates that have surpassed 50 degrees Celsius, experiences intense heat in cities like Delhi and oppressive humidity in Mumbai during the summer months, presenting significant challenges for residents.
Therefore, the UK’s declaration of a heatwave alert at a relatively mild 26 degrees Celsius has prompted playful responses from several Indians.
The UK-based publication, The Mirror, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “UK to be hit by 48-hour 26C heatwave with five cities in England set to be the hottest.”
The announcement quickly garnered attention, with Indian users flooding the comments section with witty remarks and light-hearted banter, showcasing their amusement at the UK’s interpretation of a heatwave.
One user reshared the post, humorously stating, “My AC is currently set at UK heatwave level.”
IFS officer Parveen Kaswan added, “That’s just two degrees above the default air conditioning setting in India. Sounds like pleasant weather.”
In addition to Indians, several US citizens also joined in mocking the UK for issuing a heatwave alert for what they consider a pleasant temperature.
A commenter remarked, “For it to be called a ‘heatwave,’ it should be above body temperature, not room temperature.”
